40's and 50's yellow plate black letters.
1960 to 1970-ish Black plate with yellow letters
1970 to 80s? blue with yellow letters.
80's on - white with blue letters.

When did CA switch from the yellow black plates to the yellow on blue
plates? I always thought it was in the 50s. My Sprite has the newer CA
plates on it, and my land cruiser from 71 has the blue on yellow plates.
(now CA plates are blue on white and 7 digits)
