The oil gets thinner as it gets hotter and so you see less oil pressure. How
thin it gets at a given temperature is what the SAE grading indicates. How
thick it gets at a cold temperature is also what the SAE grading indicates.
A 15/50W oil doesn't thin out as much as as 15/40W. If you fit an oil
temperature gauge to your Sprite you can see the pressure drop on the
pressure gauge while the temperature goes up on the temperature gauge - until
both stabilise. The only thing that really moves the temperature gauge is if
you start to use a lot of rpm over 6,000 for more than about 5 minutes - even
with an oil cooler. But even so the temperatures seen in the sump (where I
have the sender fitted) are not even close to that of a Turbocharger centre
bearing and oil gallary which is why STP is ok though with a Synthetic like
Mobil One you really don't need it.
