Hey guys!

You might remember about 3 weeks ago I reported that a guy, unknown to me,
stopped by to talk with me about my Midget in a parking lot. He talked only
a few minutes, but as he started to leave he turned and asked me if I would
like to have, free, an MGB GT--he would give it to me if I wanted. Well what
the heck can a guy say? There might be people in this world who could turn
down THAT offer, but THEY would probably turn down a free Guinness too.

Anyway--I towed it home yesterday--there it is! Sitting in my back yard--a
scruffy looking, rusty 1967 MGBGT with wire wheels, complete with engine,
tranny, and everything else--even a spare driver's side door (RIGHT SIDE,
mind you {it is a true British Car the guy bought in England and brought over
with him}). Yesterday was the first real look at the car I have had. Lots
of rust. The entire lower 4 inches of the rear hatch is rusted completely
away. It has crappy fiberglass fenders--rocker panels, of course, are
toast--they about always are! Aluminum bonnet is perfect. Rear dog legs
behind the rocker panels are rusty. Door posts seem to be pretty good at
first glance. Lots of good steel and panels with only surface rust.
Interior needs complete make over. Guages look intact and good.

All in all, the car is on the margin. I will have to do some stripping out
of carpet and junk inside, and serious poking with a screwdriver before I
decide whether to attempt a restoration or whether to strip her for parts.
The car has been stored outside for years, and I have no option except to
store her outside, so I don't want to put the decision off too long. Only
big problem is I am in the middle of a '67 Sprite restoraton and have several
months (which mysteriously turns into years) left on that one.

Soooo--I will quit babbling--I said I would keep the list informed about the
GT, so there ya go. Here is the rub: My wife has already started
fantasizing driving the restored GT, my 17 year old son remarked, "Hey that
would make a neat car for me to drive!", and my 26 year old son noted as to
how great a race car we could build with the GT! LOL Could be a good
father/son project--but I also have a '73 Midget in storage that could fill
that bill. What to do??? What to do!!!! I gotta go work on my Sprite!
8^)
