Someone will correct me on the numbers (hopefully), but I seem to
remember that the UK version is 9:1, and the US version is 7.5:1 or
8:1. The UK slugs are flatops; the US pistons are dished out to
reduce compression (part of some kind of pollution/low octane gas
strategy for the US that I never really bothered to understand).
You'll notice some parts suppliers sell the flatop high-compression
pistons, like VB and Triumph vendors for the Spitfire version of the
1500.
