As so many others have said, teflon tape will do fine on the little
brass
line fitting that goes into the float bowl. I think that there is supposed
to be a small rubber 'O' ring on that end somewhere. I am not sure, because
that is a compression fitting ie. The brass fitting is supposed to force
the plastic tubing against a tapered seat in the bowl, thus forming a seal.
The other end of the tubing is a force-fit over a flared end on the jet.
I have seen people put a ring of safety wire around the tubing, just as a
precaution. The leak is far more likely to occur on the float bowl end. I
might point out, as I just mentioned, some of the jets have tubing through
a brass fitting on the float bowl end, others have a plastic threaded
fitting that goes into the float bowl with the same type of flared end that
the jet has. The plastic one may use a fibre washer, or an 'O' ring,
between the nut part of the fitting and the body of the float chamber. If
you discover that you need any of these washers or 'O' rings, and can't
find the locally, let me know and I will drop some in an envelope (at no
