In the "Glad it's gone" category: The Lotus piece of crap Citroen transaxle
was a tidy $3000 just for synchros. Typical "total" rebuild is around
$5500. I was told not to feel bad since the new Renault box on later
Esprits cost $12,000 (yes, that should read $12,000). That's when I
discovered synthetic gear oil and FOR SALE BY OWNER signs.
BTW - BMW factory rebuild is $3000, $1500 from some Getrag specialist out
west with a longer warranty than the factory. My buddy has a customer with
an '87 with 290,000+ miles on original engine, gearbox.
