Alex,
The Bugeyes used an adapter, part # AEA 657 that bolted to the block
and the filter head bolted to it. The bolt holes in the adapter were
bored in such away that when the filter head was attached the canister
would point down and angle towards the rear. This did two things. 1)
the canister w/ a quart of oil was cantilevered in space were it could
vibrate and possibly loosen the attachment bolts, 2) it placed the
filter canister securing bolt in line with the "frame" rail, making it
difficult to remove. This setup remained for the 9CG engines(948cc
MkII), although another adapter is shown (AEA 305) and when supplies
were exhausted the AEA 657 was used.
With the 10CC(1098cc MkII) a different adapter was used ALSO PART # AEA
657! (either the parts illustration is wrong and this new adapter began
with the 9CG 948 or it just crept into production, I don't know; Help
anyone??). Anyway, this new adapter kept the filter close to the block
and raised it so it points straight down and is easier to change.
I am sure that this is more than you wanted, or needed, to know. I have
not had any trouble with the angled adapter coming loose. Sources for
my remarks were BMC Parts manuals, AKD 3566 and AKD 3513.
Good luck,
Dave
