In England a ferule used in a compression fitting is referred to as an "olive". 
I believe in your case it would be a brass olive.

Hello all,
I am so close to starting this engine I can smell it!  Silly things keep
stumping me though.
Question #1: Starter
Should the stud where the starter is powered be away from or toward the
enigne block?  
Question #2:  Tank "olive"
When I took the outlet fitting from my fuel tank, there was a little slug
inside that the catalogs refer to as a "tank olive".  Was this welded or
soldered or brazed to the fuel line?  Why such a goofy connection?  A
simple flare fitting should have been fine.  What are my choices?
