Don't worry Eric, you're not alone. I'm 24, college dropout working with
computers (there are lots of us). My father wouldn't let me buy any of
the interesting cars we looked at as my 1st car purchase: Porsche 914,
several MGs, a Fiat X1/9. I ended up with a Ford EXP (Ford's answer to
the CRX, based on the Escort and even heavier). It sucked. Today I have
a "sensible" car (89 SAAB 900 turbo), a Midget and a Mini. I'm making
good money (you will too -- hang in there with the EE) and enjoying all
of my cars.
I, too, would reccomend reading as many Peter Egan articles as you can.
You can find him in Cycle World and Road & Track. They can be quite
inspiring.
