This is a good debate, and I may be putting my neck on the line here. I
am rebuilding a 1965/66 Mk2 Spit from a pile of bits. I have a 12V
system I have removed from a 1966 Herald 1200, including starter. Were
Spits/ Heralds ever 6V?
My thoughts are that a 12V coil would work in a 6V system and vice versa
a 6V coil in a 12V system would just draw a lot more current and may get
hot a 12V coil in a 6V.system would draw enough current and you get a
weak spark. The car would probably run with both though. If it draws
around 3A worth of current then that is all you need and all is fine.

In the madness several years ago that was my Lucas ignition module
failing, I changed out the coil. I don't know if it's a 6v or 12v coil.
It was picked up at a local auto parts store. On a '79 spit, don't they
use 6 volt coils?

I'll take off my current coil and see if there's anything. I might have
the label on it upside-down.
