No specific experience, but an immediate engineering concern.  Where the
shock attaches to the upright is not directly above or in line with the hub,
but is just behind it - offset from the load.  This will create a moment
trying to rotate the the upright, and also trying to bend the stub on which
the shock is attached.  While the loads from the shock absorber alone are
not enough to bend or twist anything, the full weight of the car plus extra
loads due to bumps/cornering may well be.

I'm not saying this definitely wouldn't work, just that, without a bit of
engineering analysis, it would deeply worry me.  Then, as an engineering
analyst, my instinct is always that a bit of engineering analysis is bound
to be the solution!!! ;)
