Unfortunately, all of the mechanical work is done; leaving me with that
which I despise - body work. I probably dislike it due to the fact that I'm
not very good at it and I am convinced that one could spend a large part of
their week end lifetime trying to make it "just right".
While I'm afraid I know the answer, I would like the collective thought(s)
of the group regarding the undercoat. In my case, the original black
tar-like material is in very good condition. I'm working with the tub on
stands and am convinced that no rust is present. There is the argument of
moisture entrapment, but if that is the case, it has had no effect since
1979. The vehicle has seen little service, with less than 30,000 original
miles.
1. Do I really have to remove it, or can I just apply a new coat of
some similar substance over it?
2. If the answer to (1) above is not to my liking, is there some
recommendation for a good solvent to remove this material?
I doubt that I will like the answers, but I will abide by the collective
wisdom. I've gone too far now to cave under the pain of time and energy.
Thanks a lot,
Ed Hamilton
