One more tip:
If your car uses one of those common in-line fuel filters,
try to find a translucent or clear plastic one instead of
a metal one. Then you can see how much crud has accumulated
inside it.
Normally the fuel flows from the outside to the inside of the filter element,
so the crud will accumulate between the filter element and the outer wall,
where you can see it.
