If the rear wing was such a great place for the battery, they would have put it
there
originally. I think you can get a proper steel replacement battery box.
You would find it a lot easier to properly fix the original setup than to
hack up a high-quality solution with the battery in the back.
Besides, when the rear wing rusts out from the battery acid, some future
owner might post to this list wondering if it would make sense to relocate the
battery of a Spitfire from the rear wing to that funny hole in the firewall. :-)
