Thanks to all who gave advice on the gearbox
installation -- after correctly jacking up the engine
at the _front_ of the oilpan, and some vigourous
jiggling of the tranny, it slid right in like a hot
knife through butter. With a new clutch and rebuilt
master and slave cylinders, the car drives amazingly
well. Of course, not being used to a clutch that
actually works, I peeled out of the garage by mistake
on the first test of the newly installed unit!
