Not only check the head for straightness but for a dip in the block between
cylinders...
Anyway, for new head studs I've been told to use ARP studs

They don't list any for Triumphs on the website, but they are highly
recommended by Ted Schumacher and he says give their technical dept. a
call... or email.
Also, yes, you should re-torque when hot. The metal is softer when hot and
will compress some. It won't be looser than when torqued cold. If you
didn't do that the first time, that may be your failure reason. Give up on
the free gasket and get on with it.
