I was looking for a car to replace my dead chevette way back in '95. It
was my senior year of high school. I saw a '77 Spitfire in the local Auto
Trader. I fell in love with the lines immediately. Reasoning held out
though, and I bought a Honda Prelude. Good thing too, as I was driving
about 150 miles a day for work right after high school. After driving the
Honda in to the ground, buying a new VW Jetta, and having more cash than
any 20 year old should have, I went searching for a Spit. I found a local
'70 MK3 on the internet. After seeing an early body style for the first
time, I realized I had too have it. The owner wanted a few thousand more
than I had to spend. He ended up parking it a few blocks from me house on
the street for sale. After four months his price had dropped to me level,
and I snatched it up. That was five years ago now. I'll never sell
it. Really. Especially after I hear more and more stories about others
wishing they'd never sold theirs. That Jetta may soon be on the chopping
block though...I haven't driven it since November 2000...
