Driving to work today in the sun I was thinking about my Spitfire and MGs
and why we are attracted to one car or another and why.
I bought my '74 1500 about 14 months ago at, of all places, a Ford
dealership! My wife was interested in a pick-up and we went in several
times looking. Also on the lot was a very nice looking Spitfire. When she
decided against a new truck, I began my research (also known as
jusitification.) I downloaded a guide to where to look for rust. Drove the
car. Look it over some more and made the plunge. What a good decision.
Why the Spitfire? Because it was there? Maybe. Midlife Crisis? No,
although now I can afford it. When I was ten or so, my sisters husban raced
spitfires. These were built up in my folks garage. When you are ten,
that's pretty cool. While they were street legal I got to ride around in
it. To cement the Triumph bug, I used to help the church choir director a
lot while I was in my teens. His ride, a TR-3. To me, Sports Car =
Triumph.
I'm curious as to how others got bit!
