I did not get the metal cap either time I rebuilt my clutch slave cylinder.
The first time, I managed to pry up the crimped parts and slide it off.
The second time (9 years later) It was truly stuck. I ended up prying
up the front lip all the way around, and pulling out the rubber boot (which
is just a disc with an enlarged edge and a hole in the middle.
After I fitted the new boot into place, I pressed the edge of the metal cap
back down over the edge of the boot.
