Differential type

I am taking apart my 76 rear end, it is leaking at the pinion and both output
shafts.  It is nearly out of the car and aparently there are two type of
diffs.  One that uses spacers and a torque spec and another that uses a
colapsable spacer on the pinion shaft.

Is there a way to tell them apart before taking the diff apart?
