Hey Andre-
A couple of weeks ago you'd asked about stripping the paint. Today I tried
out some stuff called TAL-STRIP by Bondo/Mar-Hyde. Its methylene chloride
based. Did both rear fenders, b-posts, and the strip above the trunk lid in
under 2 hours. Planning to do the trunk lid tomorrow, couldn't find the keys
today. The car has been repainted twice so I was going down 3 paint and 2
primer layers. Stuff says it works from 75-95 degrees but it was 40 in my
garage. You can see the finish lift. Non-flammable too. No stink, but I
still wore the vapor mask. Virtually no scraping, the paint lifted off in
sheets. It did take 2 applications, but I only had to let it sit about 10
minutes. Got the stuff at Allied Autoparts, $20/gallon, used about 1/4 so
far. This is what I've been looking for, now the bonnet doesn't look quite
so daunting. Dabbed some on the firewall to see if it would take that nasty
Rusty Jones gunk off- yup! Finally got around to putting the trash tires
back on so I don't mess up the minis.
Thought I'd share the news, quick pic if you're interested:
http://68.82.60.47/Web/paintstrip001.jpg -the whitish patch on the left is
where I had to take off some filler- figured out later the stripper would
loosen that too...
Good Luck!
