OK, need a little help from some folks a little better at this electrical
stuff than I am.
I am trying to replace the control that adjusts the brightness of your dash
lights. I just tried a potentiometer from Radio Shack. It worked, kinda.
The Pot that I got turns the lights on and off about 4 times faster than I
need. Not quite an on/off switch effect, but it is getting there. The
switch is also smelling, letting off small puffs of smoke, and when you turn
it the inside tends to flash pretty colors. I take this to mean the Pot is
underrated for what I am doing.
Here is what I have.
Linear-Taper Potentiometer 50k-Ohm
500vdc , .5w rated power.
Just reading off the package.
What do I need? 10 Ohm resistance? how much rated power?
Thanks!
