Dear All,
Let me run something past you for a moment.
Is it possible that having a replacement sill fitted could lead to a
rise in engine temperature?
Sounds crazy, but let me explain...
A few days ago I had the rusty and rotten near-side sill replaced on
Carly. Since then I have discovered that the car heater works even
more efficiently than I thought it did (or, rather, that there is less
cold air coming into the car through the holes in the sill), and I now
need the heater set to about two-thirds of the way over from hot to
cold, rather than on maximum heat. Prior to this repair, my
temperature gauge used to sit at about 1/4; now it is sitting just under
the mid-point (which, I suspect, is where it is supposed to be).
So, to rephrase the question:
Can using the car heater on full really reduce the engine temperature
that much, or am I hallucinating?
ATB
