Hi James. You actually pull it _towards_ you for "daytime flashing".
Is your switch tight with a resistance towards pulling it towards
you and spring loaded to return to normal position? If not, the
mechanical movement of the switch is broken and some previous owner
disconnected it to keep it from flopping into the flashing position
while parked and running down the battery.
These things break rather easily, there is a plastic/nylon piece
inside thatjust isn't up to longevity. If you want to fit a used one,
TR7 switches are the same, although the stalk is curved and needs
to be bent straight in a vice.
If your switch seems good, then you probably have a wiring problem.
Take the cover around the steering column off and the switch
innards will be exposed in all their naked glory. If you move
the stalk around, you should be able to see which contacts should
be making contact with each other at different stalk positions.
With some test equipment, a wiring diagram and some patience
tracing wires, you should be able to rectify. Assuming this is
worth the trouble to you....
