Robert,
Welcome to the Great World of Spitfires! You will find many friends here.
I have to agree, there are times when Halfords does have it's place, and it
has often surprised me the number of parts you can get for a Spit there.
One word of warning on the air filters, however - the Champion ones that are
the only Spit ones they stock DON'T FIT - they are too wide to fit in the
air filter box, or at least the ones I bought 6 months ago were, so I
returned them and went to a Triumph specialist. In fact once I was there
they had some shiny-pretty re-usable filters for about 20% more than a
replacement paper filter should cost, so I just bought those!
Classic insurance can be a true, true bargain, if you go to the specialists
and shop around a bit; you can get further reductions from some if you
belong to a club such as Club Triumph or the TSSC. This is especially true
for students like yourself and James, since Classic insurers don't care so
much about your age, nor the low or non-existant No Claim Bonuses that many
your age often have (what AM I saying?? - I'm not a lot older than you and
I'm already using phrases like 'people your age', I must be getting
prematurely middle-aged!). If I were you I'd dump the Rover as soon as the
Spit is running and use the Spit as your every-day car!
Richard
