Hi James, hang in there you are almost done. You did not mention that
if you have balanced the carbs. That is the two carbs should be pulling
in the same amount of air. This is the part where you suppose to use
a tube place next to the openning of each carb and listen. They both should
have the same pitch indicating that they are sucking in equal amount of air.
If that is not the case you'll have to balance them. With the car warmed up
and at idle, adjust the idle screw on each of the carb. until they sound
the same and have a reasonable idle speed (around 850RPM). Once you have
this done you will have to re-adjust the mixture settings because they are
all related. Changes in the idle speed will affect the mixture settings
and vise versa at idle.
You will probably have to do this a few time to home in on the correct
settings. Once you have it pretty close and to fine tune it, you can do
what I did. I would drive the car around on the express way for around
10 minutes, find an exit, get off, locate a save place to park and
pull the 1st and last spark plugs to see their colour and turn
the appropriate jet one flat up or down to lean or enrich the mixture.
I found this method more fun than using my colourtune with the car sitting
on the driveway.
If I miss something I'm sure someone else on the list will point it out.
So keep on it, you are almost there, and once is done you'll have the
satisfaction of knowing that you did it yourself.
