Ben, you can turn off javascripts and cookies, and activex, the problem is
you just turned off many features that most websites use to offer
enhancements  and features to the website.  These scripts and features are
almost a necessary requirement to surf the web and obtain the content
offered, some sites you cannot surf without it.

As for them enabling 'stealing of software, hacking, and whatever' I can
hack into your machine with all those features turned off, so whats the
point.  The best protection against being hacked is keeping your pc and all
software 100% up to date.  Which most people don't.  That and individuals
with a dedicated internet connection should run a firewall.  Do those and
your fine.  They aren't going to hack your machine just because you have
javascripting turned on.  Besides there are much easier ways to do it.
