I've seen cases where the tendency of a car to veer to one side would change 
when I swapped tires (aned wheels too, of course) front to rear.  Could have 
been due to something at either end.  With either a TR's or a Spitfire's 
IRS, changes to how the car sits on the road could affect toe in at the 
rear.  Of course, a Spitfire wears tires so slowly that simple tread wear 
probably wasn't the operative factor.
