OK. I'm almost ready to throw in the towel. I have patiently taken 2
years of problems from this car, new floors, new tops, new carpet,
replacement differential, new clutch master, new throwout bearing,
replacement carb and manifold, replacement exhaust system, new battery,
new mahogany dash, rebuilt transmission, new alternator, replacement
drive shaft, replacement radiator, new rings, bearings, cow print seat
covers and yes, new thrust washers (just a partial list). Now the good
part. The car ran great, for 3 days and then, you guessed it, difficulty
changing gears. Check the crank - 1/4 inch travel.
So, what would cause an engine with near perfect tolerances when rebuilt
to throw out its thrust washers, could fixing this require block
modification necessitating engine re-removal and is it worth it to put
another minutes effort into a car that obviously has a will to die?
Thanks for listening from way down in this pit of depression :(
