....Gas Struts for Spit and GT6 bonnets....
Well you just may get your wishes!
I've been in contact with one of the many mfr'rs
of gas struts and am working with them specing
out the requirements of a pair of struts for just
such an application!
Question...
Some variations exist. We can configure them to
open the bonnet automatically with almost zero
force required to open, and very minimal
close force required. The second config under
consideration is a little force to open at first and then
a 'lock' that keeps them open, requiring you to
'release' a stop to close the bonnet.
The latter seem safer to me as the bonnet could not
inadvertently close on you. This is primarily a function
of where/how (the position) the struts are mounted and how much
pressure is in them.
Anyone interested, please let me know as a mass purchase
of course would be cheaper.

James,
I have two GT6's and three Spits. I can open all by myself. However,
on one of the Spits I have to open on the left side. For some reason
it hangs up if I try openning on the right. On one of the GT6's the
bonnet drags on the sides and is not as easy to open as it should be.
I too would love to add gas struts.

was on my own, I wouldnt be able to open the bonnet - to check
everything.

seems to flex a certain amount - almost like its going to snap in
half. So opening on just one side doesnt seem a good idea anyway. The
side that Im not lifting just doesnt move - and just catches on on the
catch.

have the strength - do I need to start going down the gym? and has
anyone installed any kind of gas lift like in modern cars?
