Hmm.
1. The vacuum advance is tested and working properly. I don't believe I have
a Dizzy, a dizzy?. My vac line runs from the carb's back to the distrubutor,
I have points, not electronic ignition.
2. I have not heard the valves at .012" gap before, they are at .010" what
will the looser gap cause and why? Not sure what changing the oil to 20W-50
would do either?
3. Too lean/rich is somewhat guesswork on my part, I do not have a colortune
or a sniffer to test while I adjust it, I assumed going all the way down
would be a good idea if it was running rich.
4. The needle offered by parts guys is available only in one size. My jet
hole could be worn. I could dissasemble the carb and put in the needle with a
flashlight at the other end to determine. If worn, it would be as expensive
to rebush as it would to buy a new stromburg, unacceptable in either case.
5. Richening the mixture a bit to get better fuel burn may be necessary but
it is tough to guage the HC and CO output without a sniffer machine. Perhaps
I should adjust using the screwdriver to lift the piston/needle 1/8 inch
trick: (rpm's down=lean)(rpm's up=rich) head for the mid point.
6. The cat being too far back seems to be a poor placement. But it is there
now, and will come off after/if passing. I believe I will attach an electric
pump air supply into the nipple into the cat, swithable at ignition and/or
perhaps actuated by the oil pressure switch, to further heat up the cat and
turn the CO into CO2 and the HC into H2O. Harbor freight has a small air pump
for an air horn, I can wire and silence in the trunk and run the line to the
cat.
7. Disable the bypass valve? Might solve my variable idle rpm issue or
eliminate that as suspect and might further point to the choke valve being
suspect. I don't recall smog referee verifying proper choke operation other
than visual inspection, perhaps I'll block off that passageway just in case I
am pulling in fuel there even when closed.
8. Paul Meyer is correct it was an error at 2 btdc it is 10 btdc, so is the
car.
Thanks for the help!!!
