Well, I'm ready to pull the engine to look at the thrust
washer. The front pulley moves in and out easily 3/16". My
questions are, 1) if I remove the oil pan and visualize the
dropped thrust washer, what things do I look for to
determine if I can just replace it with a new one or send
the engine to the shop for more extensive repairs. What
might those be? Bearings? Journals? even new block?
2) If the thrust washer can be replaced with no other engine
work, how is the thrust washer "pinned" to prevent it
falling in the future? Can this be done without
disassembling?
Thanks again to all who advised me in diagnosing my engine
problems.
