If you've got a Weber DGV (or DGAV if you have the electric choke), can
you do me a favor please?

Take your air filter off, start the engine, and look down the primary
barrel, (doesn't have to be warmed up). I'm told you should NOT see ANY
gasoline whatsoever in the barrel, (both at idle, and at more throttle).

I think I've narrowed down the problem with my Spitfire's terrible gas
mileage, and the fact that I can't pass the State Smog test, for CO,
(carbon monoxide), even though I'm passing the hydrocarbon test with
flying colors. When I look down the primary barrel, I see raw gas, (just
a little), dripping down from the 'tube' that goes across the barrel just
under the choke plates.

When I increase the engine's speed, the amount of gas seen increases
dramatically. I can't believe it's supposed to work this way, a highly
designed carb, literally 'dripping' gas down the barrel, and like I said,
someone just pointed this out to me. Unfortunately, I have no way to
know if this person really knows what they're talking about. It sounds
correct though.

If you could take 5 minutes, and look at your weber, and let me know, I'd
really appreciate it. Do you see raw gas in the barrel when the car is
running?

Thanks,

Brad
