I've got my crankshaft back from the machine shop and in the motor. Things
were humming along just fine.
Actually, it took me about 9 hours to get to the point where I'm ready to
put the sprockets and the new timing chain in place.
But OOOPS.
Through embarrassing stupidity, I moved the camshaft. Argh.
Now I have to figure out how to get the camshaft sprocket and the
crankshaft sprockets aligned correctly.
I've read the manuals I have and I think I know what to do, but I would
really like some feedback on this one.
I think I need to turn the camshaft so that the rotor is at the position to
fire the number one cylinder.
That would be the place where cylinder one would be at top dead center.
Then I would put the cam sprocket on so it matches the diagram in my shop
manual. --- with the alignment mark at the bottom of the sprocket. The
book says that the diagram is showing the sprockets with 1 at top dead center.
Then aligning the crank sprocket is just a matter of turning the crank
until the mark on the crank sprocket lines up with the mark on the cam
sprocket.
Does this make any sense? Am I close? Am I rambling because I've been
staring at the inards of this (#^$)(#$#$)(&((%# motor for nine hours?
Thanks.
