  I think that is the key.

  I had a go at it tonight, and I got it together snug, but
I expect it may not last.

  I think I have decided it CAN be done though.

  The key is that the bushing can be inserted through
the bushing hole alone, and it expands and fills the
throwout arm. Then the pin can be tapped in, and it's
all snug.

  That's exactly what I did tonight, and it snugged
up very nice. However, I think I've tried too many
tricks with my old pivot bushing, and it looked like
it was starting to shred a bit as it went in the
last time. So I suspect it's in there but a little
mangled.

  To be safe, I filled the hole under the pin with
silicone to catch the pin if the bushing falls
apart, which may happen.

  I don't know how long this will hold together, maybe
a minute, maybe a decade. I suspect it might
be long enough that if I order the parts right about
now I should be ok.

  We shall see. I have the sump off as well so test
drive will have to wait...
