The overdive unit on Ebay came out of a 1976 Spitfire, which makes it a
J-type. J-type overdrives are generally hooked up to single-rail gearboxes.
If your gearbox is original, it's a 3-rail gearbox and you're best off with
a D-type overdrive unit. It's possible to intermix J-types, D-types, 3-rail
and single-rail gearboxes, but it's not as easy as keeping it all original.
If you were to buy a J-type OD unit, you'd need a shorter propshaft, new
gearbox/OD support bracket, complete OD-type gearbox (probably with a
non-standard input shaft), OD wiring harness & switch and a different
speedo drive cable. The speedo stays the same.
I'd forego the OD unit at Ebay if I were you (no guarantee that it works at
all) and wait for a complete set to come by.
Cheers,
