Hi Bob,

Two things come to mind. Perhaps you simply got the temp sender wet, 
causing its resistance to change, in turn causing the gauge to read 
differently. Second, 3/4 on the gauge is the normal reading for a Spit temp 
gauge according to both my 74 and 77 owner's manuals! Of course, if your 
car has always run at 1/2 and now runs at 3/4 then that bears 
investigation, but I bet it goes back to "normal" after a day or two. Is 
there any other sign that the car is REALLY running hot? Running 
differently, etc?
