And if you do adjust the hinges to lift the door, don't forget to re-align the
door lock striker plate to correspond to the new lock position.

John, if you grab the door near the outer end and left up on it, is there
significant play? If there is more than half an inch, you need new hinges. I'm
guessing on the actual amount of play but this is a good starting point. Hinges
do wear out and the driver's side is usually the first to go. Hinges are
commonly available and they are all the same (top and bottom, drivers and
passengers doors).

If there is little play, then you can adjust the hinges. Loosen the bolts on the
bottom hinge. Loosen the bolts on the top hinge but keep one tight enough to
allow the door to pivot on it. Pull up on the outer edge of the door then
tighten one of the lower bolts. Check the door for clearance by slowly closing
the door. Be careful that it doesn't touch the body (unless you don't care about
the paint). By trial and error you should be able to get a good fit. You may
also have to adjust the position of the top hinge to get the door straight in
relation to the body lines. When you are happy with the fit, tighten all the
bolts, then re-check.

It also might help to use some small shims of wood to hold the door in place
while you tighten the bolts. Or have some person help you, even better.
