Tim, I just brought back (to the US) a pair of used HS4 plus rebuild kit
needles etc. which I got from Sports Car Supplies (they are near Newcastle). I
see Rimmer also sells the kits over in the UK.
The kit contains lots of parts (including throttle spindles and main jets).
Note that there is a service kit and a rebuild kit.
I rebuilt the current US spec Stromberg on my car and that was pretty easy. I
expect the SU's to be similar, just that their's two to do.
I also had revs dying off. I replaced my old Allsion with a Pertronix.
Did the VTR autocross and could hit the red line all the time!

Subject: Which carbs
Hi every one...
Have been enjoying the late afternoon sun here in england in the car!
But have some niggles which although I don't plan to sort out until the
winter I would like to start thinking about.
Firstly my dual HS4 SU are knackered, 150K miles of abuses have taken
there toll.
So I was wondering.
1)Should I rebuild them (including new jet bearings to fix the sticking
jets and new bushes to fix the throttle spindle air leaks.)?
2)Should I pay someone who knows what they are doing to rebuild them
(150 Pounds +)?
3)Should I shell out for new ones (300 pounds+)?
4)should I switch to a single Webber (? pounds) but lower maintainance?
5)Should I switch to dual weber (increased overdraft)?
Also the power of my stock 1500 seems to die at 4000 revs, Is this
normal, or is this another sign of a worn carb and or distrubtor. I
thought I might install an Aldon Ignitor exlectronic system anyway!
Thanks for the help
the summer has been too short!
Cheers
Tim
