Hi again, Ken!

I can speak from experience on your diff question.

The 3.27 ratio, after you factor out tire circumference differences, is very
close in overall reduction to a stock TR6 diff. The two litre car gives
away 25% of torque in return for a 500 lb weight advantage and higher rev
capacity. Think about a 2.5 in a GT6 if you are interested in the feeling
of a GT6 on steroids.

Now the comparison. One weekend I ran both ratios. Admittedly, the 4.11
was also a posi, and that contributed some interesting aspects as well.
Effectively, you can simulate the change in ratio by driving one gear up
from normal. That is, take your car, as is, off the line in 2nd gear and
pretend it is a 3 speed. The reduction in ratio by differential action is
almost equivalent to an overdrive ratio from that point on.

Depending on the tune of your car this change in performance may not be
acceptable. I use 1st gear, with 185 70 13 " tires, to an indicated 35
mph... about 4000 rpm. Once you master the "LeMans Start" style clutch slip
the car is very satisfying to drive. In most cities you can drive around in
1st gear or mid 2nd... it is a great cruiser with the 3.27. 3rd gear
becomes the 50 mph gear, and interstate lets you cruise at 70 mph at about
3200 rpm.

In my racing experience, I found that the 4.11 is lots of fun in the city
but useless for the Grand Touring that our cars were meant to be used for...
and I hope to be touring again this summer!
