Please provide me with as much information on this subject as you possibly
can . I would hate to purchase items which I cannot use :-) . I would also
like to keep my Spitfire as original as possible .
I have a few complete non o/d Mk 1 gearboxes ( trannys ) . FC serial numbers
I might also have one or two non o/d Mk 3 gearboxes . FD serial numbers .
If I understand it correctly I will need the following :
1) D type o/d unit ( complete with solenoid , inhibitor switch and angle
drive ) pulled from Mk 1 o/d gearbox . ( Will the units from Mk 2 , Mk 3 and
IV Spitfires work ? )
2) Complete mainshaft pulled from Mk 1 o/d gearbox . ( Will the units from
Mk 2 , Mk 3 and IV Spitfires work ? )
3) Overdrive relay unit .
4) Overdrive scroll / script badge for boot / trunk .
5) Overdrive wiring .
6) Overdrive switch ( steering column stalk and special cowling )
7) longer speedo cable
I could use the same diff / rear end and shorten my existing prop-shaft .
Is this correct ? Anything else ?

Hi Chris, I've heard that quantum is not a cheap place but you never know.
Over here I don't think D-type OD's are all that hard to come by. A couple
of
days ago I bought a 2nd one that I'll use in my Mayflower Ute that I'll be
building. It was the only one he had however.
You could try Paul Oglesby at bmcltd@spis.net I've bought a lot of stuff
from
Paul, he's not cheap but he's not the most expensive either. There is also
British Miles bmsales@britishmiles.com. I've purchased an A-type od from
them and they were about the most expensive but they generally have parts.
I'd hate to think what shipping would cost to get something like that to
you.
Most places sell the tranny and OD together but if you're lucky you might
find
one that someone is willing to pull the OD off the tranny and then pull the
mainshaft out of the tranny. That would cut down a fair amount on the
shipping costs and the size of the package. But don't expect a reduction in
price for excluding the tranny. Most places throw that in just so they
don't
have to dismantle anything.
