Thanks to all who responded regarding the heli-coil, permatex and oil pan
party that I've been having at my house all day. Despite the cut over my
eye and remnants of cat litter ground into the back of my head from laying
on my back where the oil used to drip (nice and clean now, but the back of
my shirt and pants are a mess!), I successfully (?) wormed the heli-coil
slightly further into the hole, gave both sides of the gasket a double bead
of goop (on each side of the screw holes) on both sides, and slid that
mother back into place while listening to music. I highly recommend Stan
Getz and Astrud Gilberto's "Girl From Impanema" while toiling with these
unpleasant tasks. If Mrs. Jones is still spotting on the concrete after
THIS episode, I think I'll simply throw in the towel, buy a oil pan for the
garage floor and just plan on adding a quart every 500 miles. Actually, I
think (hope) that this will have done the trick.
Say, while crawling around under there, I noticed a broken weld on the
little piece that joins the lower A support on one side of my front
suspension. This is the small plate that sits directly below the lower
shock mount. Is this something I should be overly concerned with? I'm
thinking of going back to the shop that just installed my muffler and giving
the kid five bucks to tack it back with his MIG welder. Either that, or
this gives me my first excuse to go out and buy my own, hee hee.
Let me know, please!
Best wishes,
Jeff in San Diego
