You don't say exactly why you can't pull the tranny back far enough, is it
running into the drive shaft? Generally, you need to jack up the engine by
putting a board under the oil pan to spread the weight, then jack it up so that
you can pull the tranny out into the interior of the car (clearing the drive
shaft tunnel).
