A tow dolly is fine. I used a U-Haul dolly to get my Spit home and worked just
fine. Towing vehicle was a 79 Volkswagen camper.
I just towed a 59 Opel on a dolly for 1400 miles and it didn't do anything to
the diff. The only thing of concern are automatic transmissions that need a
running engine for lubrication; but that should not be an issue for a Spit.....

Using a two wheel dolly on the front, I'd be concerned that my rear would
hit the pavement over bumps, etc. I'd go with a tow bar or trailer. Not an
expert on trans, but if it is in neutral, I think your ok. Same for the
diff. Of course, seek wiser counsel....
