Thanks to Joe Curry and also the seller of my "new" windshield from
Annandale, VA. The windshield went in extremely well, but I would like to
add a couple of tips from my experience.
1 Use 3 people. One at either side of the glass to keep it from shifting,
one inside working the rope.
2 When working the rope, do not pull at an angle; even with petroleum
jelly
on the metal frame, you will cut the rubber between your rope and the frame.
Instead, pull the rope straight toward the back of the car.
3 If the gasket "rolls over" as you seat the lip with the rope, it can
usually be worked back with a thin common screwdriver wrapped in electrical
tape. (BE CAREFUL) This is a possible indication that the glass has shifted;
if so, stop, remove glass, and start over. TRUST ME ON THIS: It is FAR less
frustrating to do it over thatn to break the glass trying to finish - then
having to source glass once more.
