Chris,
Precisely!  The rear of the early Mk3's were pretty much the same as the Mk2 
with the addition of the pair of reverse lights.  These
can be added rather easily to a Mk2 body and it would be pretty much 
indistinguishable form an early Mk3 at the rear.
