It's interesting that you should ask about this at this particular time. I
thought I had a handle on that issue, but apparently not. I talked to BPNW
about that earlier today and was told that the MkIV and 1500 engines have larger
journals on the cam than the ealrlier engines. I was under the mis-impression
that the cam journals were all the same size and the block was reduced in size
when the cam bearings were done away with.
I was told that for my racing engine (early 1296) to ditch the cam bearings and
run the cam right in the block. That runs counter to all my emotions.
I am going to pose the question to the FOT list ans see if any of the
"Heavyweights" have any further comment on the subject.
