Just cause they specialize in British cars doesn't make them Spitfire or
even Triumph friendly (except maybe with TR2s and TR3s). There's a guy in
Orange County-been in Car and Driver and Road and Track, even advertises in
the club newsletter, but he really feels that unless it's got a snarling cat
on it or a pair of wings, it's not worth his time.
It's kind of frustrating too, being in a Triumph club, but when we have
guest speakers or films-there's never anything about Spitfires. We spit
pilots sort of gather together in a corner and give each other advice! (Hey,
I'm considered an 'expert' by these folks cause I'm the only who actually
drives one everyday!)
Dave is great because the only Triumph he really likes is the Spitfire-even
though they do restorations on the more profitable TR2s and TR3s (They have
a pretty little TR2 long door right now.) He looks at the Spitfire as sort
of a poor mans E-Type! And he's built some really gorgeous, prize-winning
Es! (Including the Austin Powers Jag.) Just really nice to finally have
found a mechanic who loves Spits and has a bit of regard and respect of
them! In my experience, too many of them don't.
