Patrick, I am assuming that you are speaking of where the overdrive switch
wire are routed through.  The lever should be hollow with the wires entering
right above the rectangular reinforcement part (right where the top of the
shift boot sits) through a small hole in the side and obviously exiting
through the top to your switch.
