I'm in the midst of such a swap. My biggest problem right now is
finding a drive flange to fit the J-Type output shaft. I'm assuming
that since you mentioned a parts car that you had one readily
available. So far I've obtained two from suppliers, neither of which
was correct. Although one is real close, and I'm hoping a machinist
might help.

My car is a 78 1500. I started to rebuild the grbx, ran into parts
problems (somehow it has an odd set of gears that I couldn't find a
match for), and decided to try to find an OD grbx. The one I got is a 3
rail with J-Type, all rebuilt. As I compared the original gbx with
extension and the 3 rail OD grbx, they appear to be the same length
overall, which means to me that the drive shaft would also be the same
length. As I got a new d-shaft with the rebuilt gbox, I now seem to
have an extra one, if anyone's interested. Oh well.

So, have any drive flanges for a J-Type OD lying around? Flange washer
and nut would also be handy. Hints for making an almost-right flange
fit (appears to be the right diameter with the right number of
splines)? I got to hurry, springs acomin.
